Iranian navy launches 2-day drill in southern waters

TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Navy of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Thursday launched a large-scale two-day military drill in the country's southern waters.

The exercise, codenamed Shahid Mohammad Nazeri, aims to serve as a "manifestation of the Iranian naval forces' sacrifices and spirit of resistance in the face of any threat," according to a statement published on the IRGC's official news outlet, Sepah News.

The statement said the IRGC navy issued warnings to the U.S. warships in the region during the drill, "relaying their decisive message" to them.

It said the navy's advanced homegrown air defense systems, including Navvab, Majid and Misagh, were employed in the electronic warfare conditions, adding that the exercise aims to demonstrate the navy's combat power, new defensive and offensive systems as well as missile, drone, monitoring and interception capabilities.
