Iran welcomes prisoner swap deal between Yemen's warring sides

TEHRAN, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei on Wednesday welcomed the prisoner swap agreement between Yemen's warring sides.

Baghaei praised Oman's role in facilitating the 12-day talks that brought about the agreement.

He expressed hope that the agreement would lay the groundwork for the resolution of all remaining issues, leading to peace and stability in Yemen.

On Tuesday, officials from Yemen's internationally recognized government and the Houthi group said the two sides have reached a new swap agreement involving nearly 3,000 detainees, including seven Saudis and 23 Sudanese nationals.
