PanARMENIAN.Net - In Iran, Armenia's Ambassador Grigor Hakobyan met with the Supreme Leader's international affairs adviser Ali Akbar Velayati to discuss the Trump Route."

Velayati stated that the Trump Route is effectively identical to the "Zangezur Corridor" project and added that Tehran is decisively opposed to it, Sputnik Armenia reported, citing IRNA.

Iran has opposed any corridor from the start because Tehran rejects any change to regional borders and fears threats to its security, the Iranian news agency reported.

He warned that this scenario could lead to NATO's presence north of Iran, creating serious risks to security in northern Iran and southern Russia.

Velayati also said that the United States has a history of entering highly sensitive regions with its projects. These projects are presented as economic initiatives but gradually expand into military and security sectors.

The Embassy of Armenia in Iran issued only an official statement. The Embassy said Ambassador Hakobyan stressed that the "Trump path" will be implemented on the basis of territorial integrity, sovereignty, legality, and reciprocity of the states and will create broad opportunities for regional connectivity and economic development.

"The Armenian ambassador reiterated that official Yerevan highly values Tehran's unwavering respect for these principles and, in return, takes into account friendly Iran's security and political sensitivities," the statement said.

Regarding Armenia-Iran bilateral relations, both sides emphasized the historical and strategic nature of these ties and their mutual will to deepen them.

The meeting reportedly included Velayati welcoming efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and foster regional stability.
