BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TBILISI -- Georgia confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing its total to 1,278.

The National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) said 12 of the new cases were from Lenjeri village of Mestia municipality in northern Georgia.

As of Wednesday, 1,058 of the 1,278 patients have recovered, while 17 others have died, the NCDC said.

GUANGZHOU -- The southern Chinese city of Guangzhou has seen a full recovery of the exhibition industry, following a disruption caused by the COVID-19 epidemic in the first half-year.

Figures available from the municipal bureau of commerce on Wednesday suggested that from the beginning of July to August 11, the city's exhibition area of Pazhou hosted 36 exhibitions, with a total exhibition area of 900,000 square meters. The events drew about 700,000 exhibitors and visitors.

TEHRAN -- Iran recorded 2,510 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 333,699 on Wednesday.

The death toll from the virus in the country rose to 18,988 after 188 new deaths were added overnight, Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the health ministry, announced during her daily update.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 11 new COVID-19 infections, the health ministry said on Wednesday, bringing the national total to 9,114.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that eight cases are imported and three more are local transmissions.

WINDHOEK -- Namibia has recorded a positive road safety trend in the first half of this year, recording an average decrease of 14, 15 and 14 percent respectively for crashes, injuries, and deaths, as compared to those of the previous year, according to data from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA).

MVA Fund Chief Executive Rosalia Martins-Hausiku on Wednesday said a decline was also observed from March 2020, with a major slump evident in April due to a nationwide lockdown that restricted traveling to curb COVID-19.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,942 within one day to 130,718, with the death toll adding by 79 to 5,903, the health ministry said on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, 2,088 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 85,798.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines surged to 143,749 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,444 new daily cases on Wednesday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries further rose to 68,997 after it reported 636 more patients having survived the disease.
