TEHRAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Total COVID-19 infections in Iran hit 320,117 on Thursday after the registration of 2,634 new cases overnight, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

Over the past 24 hours, 174 new death cases were registered, taking the total fatalities in the country to 17,976, Lari said at her daily briefing, according to the state TV.

So far, 277,463 patients have recovered and 4,156 remain in critical condition, said Lari.

According to the health spokesperson, 2,612,763 lab tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in Iran as of Thursday.

She said 25 Iranian provinces are in high-risk or alert condition over the disease.

Iran announced its first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19.

Iran and China have offered mutual help in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
